Description: Aranesp differs from the recombinant human Erythropoietin in Epogen (Epoetin Alfa) mainly in its duration of activity. Severe allergic reactions (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); blurred vision or vision changes; chest pain; confusion; fainting; fast or irregular heartbeat; flu-like symptoms (fever, chills, sore throat); one-sided weakness; pale skin color; redness, tenderness, or swelling of the calf; seizures; severe diarrhea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, or vomiting; severe or persistent tiredness or weakness; slurred speech; sudden pain or numbness of an arm or leg; sudden shortness of breath; sudden trouble walking or loss of balance; swelling of the arms or legs; vision or speech problems; weight gain.
Dose: The dose of Darbepoetin Alfa will be different for different patients. Follow your doctor's orders or the directions on the label. The following information includes only the average doses of Darbepoetin Alfa. If your dose is different, do not change it unless your doctor tells you to do so.

For severe anemia:

Adults and teenagers — Dose is based on body weight and must be determined by your doctor. Darbepoetin Alfa is injected into a vein or under the skin. How often you take this medicine must be determined by your doctor. Your doctor may need to adjust the dose to determine the best dose for you.

Children 1 month to 12 years of age — Dose is based on body weight and must be determined by your doctor. Darbepoetin Alfa is injected into a vein or under the skin. How often you take this medicine must be determined by your doctor. Your doctor may need to adjust the dose to determine the best dose for you.

Children up to 1 month of age — Use and dose must be determined by your doctor.
